happy pelvis: be happy not perfect, okay?
18" x 24"
charcoal on paper
I had been drawing and painting for many years by the time I took the studio figure drawing class where this pelvis was drawn. In the studio class I felt criticized and harassed by my art teacher. My art teacher thought this drawing was a failure and wanted me to quit and start over. I chose a form of civil disobedience; which is to say, I decided to have fun with the drawing even though it was considered a failure in the eyes of my teacher. As I left class that day I announced that this pelvis drawing looked happy if not perfect, and this made the whole class laugh if not the art teacher. In life, I do not think a person can be happy while striving for perfection. You have to choose, okay?
